I recently finished the book, A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle, and am finding myself dreaming of the magical weekend my husband and I had on our recent trip to France. I daresay we did not have enough time in the area, I am hoping to return again next year, below are my recommendations for a nice weekend trip.
Bastide De Gordes: (Click for link to hotel website)
My husband and I stayed at the Bastide de Gordes. This hotel was definitely a splurge (but so worth it!). The hotel is located in Gordes, which is a tiny town on top of a hill in the Luberon region with views that will take your breath away. The hotel has four different restaurants, one Michelin starred, all of which were destinations for visitors not staying at the hotel as well. The bar is amazing, and attracted people who were biking through the country side all day long. Definitely worth a stop for a meal or a drink at the very least
L’Isle sur la Sorgue: If you are in any way into antiques and the cutest farmers markets, this will be your dream. We were luckily in town on Sunday, which is the day to hit the market in this gorgeous town. Antique booths filled with treasuers line the street, fresh baguettes and street food are also present. There are also many many brick and morter retailers the line the town as well for larger purchases. Link above to Trip Advisor review of the area.
Chateau Lacoste:So I get no credit for this find, my friend and one of the biggest foodies I know found it, we happened to run into her on our trip (which was so fun!) and she recommended we go. We ate at the café in the art gallery not the main restaurant but it was delightful, cheap, and a gorgeous place to spend an afternoon. The New York times have also covered this, since it is owned by famed Chef Francis Mallman.
The famous Lavender fields. While we missed peak season, its still worth checking out. Peak season is June through August.
